subusers − a description of the file /etc/subusers |
The file /etc/subusers contains all the ancestry information for the subuser toolkit. It consists of a number of lines of the form |
parent:child1,child2,...,childN |
Each such line is a record indicating that parent is the parent user of child1 through childN. The tools subuseradd and subuserdel manipulate this file, and the tools subusersu, subusersudo, and subuserchown reference this file to determine relative ancestry. subuseradd prevents children from “creating” users that already exist. This prevents cycles in the hierarchy. |
