CCL Certificate Authority

The Cooperative Computing Lab operates a simple certificate authority (CA) for the benefit of our internal users. The purpose of a CA is to digitally sign certificates for users and hosts so that both may communicate with each other securely over a wide area network.

The CCL CA offers a medium level of security for users local to the University of Notre Dame. The CA will only sign certificates for users whose identity can be demonstrated in person. However, the CA's master keys are not locked in a bank vault, nor do we require biometrics or the like for identification. If you are looking for a high security certificate, consider purchasing one from a commercial vendor or a federal agency.
